A full range of Sports Medicine cares for your sports injury!
Sports medicine physicians are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of sports- or exercise-related injuries and illness including bone fractures and stress fractures, dislocations, ligament or tendon injuries, overuse or degenerative disorders, which may have occurred in your shoulder, elbow, knee or ankle. With the best medical technology called Arthroscopic Surgery, this Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) does not involve large open incisions and results in less pain, less swelling and faster recoveries. The surgeries are geared toward tendons, ligaments, articular cartilage and bone in joint preservation basis. However, we also provide Open Surgery and Joint Replacement Surgery when the Minimally Invasive Surgery is not appropriate for your condition.
Osteoarthritis and Joint Reconstruction or Replacement
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones wears down over time. Although osteoarthritis can damage any joint, the disorder most commonly affects joints in your knees and hips. Signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis include: pain, stiffness, tenderness, loss of flexibility, grating sensation, bone spurs and swelling. It cannot be reversed, but treatments can reduce pain and give you better mobility. If conservative treatments don’t help, you may want to consider surgical procedures (Joint Replacement Surgery) such as Total Knee Replacement Surgery, Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA) or Hip Replacement Surgery.
Foot and Ankle Surgery
Problems in the feet and ankles are common, but not always, associated with arthritis. Most feet have an arch shape that spreads the body’s weight evenly over many bones and joints. Pain in the ankles and heels can come from joints themselves, or from muscles and tendons around the joints. Osteoarthritis isn’t very common in the ankle but can be the result of previous damage from an injury or due to inflammatory arthritis. At Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, we provide treatment for foot and ankle conditions and injuries such as Achilles tendinitis, hallux valgus, interdigital neuritis, plantar fasciitis, exostosis and other fractures as well as skin and soft tissue problems around the feet and heels. Even if you don’t have any significant health conditions, you should still seek help if your feet are giving you problems.
Hand and Microsurgery
Our hands are an integral part of our lives. We understand the importance of speedy and easy recovery, so our team of skilled surgeons utilize Microsurgery to get you back to work in no time. Whether you suffer from a chronic injury or experience a sudden hand, wrist and elbow injury such as osteoarthritis, tendinitis and tissue damage, trigger finger and trigger thumb, laceration damage to nerves, tendons, veins and arteries, soft tissue trauma and all other conditions of the hand, we offer a complete range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services.
Back and Spine Surgery
Back pain is a common reason for absence from work and for seeking medical treatment. It can be uncomfortable and debilitating. Back pain can affect people of any age, for different reasons and can also result from some everyday activities or poor posture. As people get older, the chance of developing lower back pain increases. The main symptom of back pain is an ache or pain anywhere in the back, and sometimes all the way down to the buttocks and legs. Some back issues can cause pain in other parts of the body, depending on the nerves affected. The pain often goes away without treatment, but if it occurs with any numbness or tingling and if a patient has a herniated disk, surgery may be an option, especially if there is persistent pain and nerve compression which can lead to muscle weakness. At Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, we provide care for both adults and children who have spinal disorders, degenerative disk disease and other back and spinal injury (accident). Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) technology called Endoscopic Spine Surgery is a new and innovative approach to spinal surgery. The method only requires a very small incision in the lower back, but with accurate dissection of the spinal nerves, using a high resolution surgical camera, resulting in less pain, quicker recovery and a faster resumption of daily life.
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a development of medical techniques and equipment to improve the surgical technology for the health of people around the world. Minimally Invasive Surgery is a procedure carried out without the need for a large incision. At Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, we do provide MIS to present the best surgical technology choices for our patients.
Arthroscopy
A minimally invasive surgical procedure on a joint in which an examination and sometimes treatment of damage is performed using an arthroscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision. When an arthroscopy is performed, a camera is inserted into the joint through a small incision (about 1 centimeter). The arthroscopic surgery camera is attached to a fiberoptic light source and shows a picture of the inside of the joint on a digital monitor. The surgeon uses fluid pumped through the joint to aid in visibility and clear debris from the joint. One or more other incisions may be made to insert instruments that can treat a variety of conditions.
Endoscopy Discectomy
Endoscopic Spine Surgery is a minimally-invasive spine surgery used to treat back pain, leg pain, numbness and weakness, bone spurs, bulging discs, stenosis, herniated discs, facet joint disease, sciatica, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, and more. The procedure requires a skin incision less than 1 centimeter and is done through a tube between back muscles to decrease muscle damage and weakness caused by muscle retraction. Minimally Invasive Surgery is not the same as “microsurgery”. “Microsurgery” only refers to the use of a microscope, not the size of the incision or the amount of muscle damage.
Microdiscectomy
Typically performed for a herniated disc, a microdiscectomy (also called a microdecompression) relieves the pressure on a spinal nerve root by removing the material causing the pain. This surgical technology uses a microscope located outside the patient’s body. Then cut the muscle from the bone to allow the surgeon to see the position of nerve compression and perform decompression. A typical skin incision is 3-5 centimeters.
