Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS)

Before the launch of PACS, the x-ray process was lengthy, allowing time for the technician to process the film, before passing it onto your doctor.

But time, as you know, is precious and possibly even critical when it comes to medicine, making advances in medical technology and equipment a strong focus on the scientific front. To speed up the x-ray process and provide a more efficient medical service, the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) was developed.

Using the state-of-the-art digital picture archiving communication system, PACS enables the collection and transmission of medical data, as well as x-ray images – without the use of x-ray films – via the hospital’s computer network. The system meets the DCOM standard.

PACS takes the waiting out of the x-ray!

Patients can now return to their doctor, immediately after their x-ray. In his consultation room, the doctor can immediately call up the x-ray image from the hospital database, and have access to the medical results on screen. For areas of concern, the doctor can enlarge any specific spot on the screen, taking away the need for another x-ray.

PACS also means that patients can save time during future visits to the clinic. Cutting time wasted searching manually for old x-ray films, the system also allows doctors to call up former x-rays on line. Moreover, x-ray digital images can be saved on CD for patients upon request.

As well as being both convenient and accurate, PACS is also environment friendly. The chemicals used in former x-ray processes are now no longer needed.
