Erectile dysfunction is a condition that creates problems for patients and may affect their paertner. If the patient has been treated with medication and other therapies and suffers with the unresponsive result, the penile implants may be a good option to help correct the condition.
There are two main types of penile implants:
1. Semirigid rods (Non Hydraulic)
A semirigid device is easy to use and has a low chance of malfunction due to the small number of parts, but it is not natural, can be difficult to conceal under clothing and unable to expand as needed.
2. Two-piece inflatable (Hydraulic Penile Prosthesis)
An Inflatable device can be inflated to create an erection by pumping the liquid from a reservoir into the penis and deflated as desired. It provides better concealment when the penis is flaccid and can be enlarged for erection. One advantage is it feels more natural. Currently, some model is able to increase the length of the penis when erect.
In addition, one thing to be considered is the disability in some patients, especially hand disabled, because some devices, pumping to inflate and deflate is difficult with these patients. It may discussion with the patient’s partner about helping the patients to inflate and deflate the device.
